Cabin in the Woods
Lost River, West Virginia
Vineyard, Firelight, and Falling Leaves
Nestled in the woods of rural West Virginia, this writer’s retreat offers a soulful escape from the modern world. The design emphasizes simplicity and craftsmanship, drawing inspiration from the region’s resourcefulness. Materials sourced from the property, such as a fallen Chestnut Oak repurposed as a library wall, are intended to root the space in its environment. Warm, textural finishes like hammered copper counters and a thoughtful interplay of light and shadow create a comfortable, contemplative atmosphere within the rustic cabin. A small vineyard of Viognier and Petite Verdot, along with wandering walking trails that follow the natural topography, connect the retreat to its surroundings, providing a peaceful setting for creativity and contemplation.
